Once while touring with Dreamtrybe in the heat of summer, Ginger Doss and eight other band members had their van break down just outside of Houston. They had to travel the rest of the drive to Maryland in a diesel truck on loan from a good friend of the band. Most of the band had to ride in the covered bed of the truck. To keep anyone from bursting into flames, they ran a big-ass channel of air conditioning duct from the a/c vents in the cab, all the way to the sweltering bed of the truck where the rest of the hippies were wilting like flowers in the sun. How’s that for ingenuity! They made it to Maryland successfully. No incidents of heat stroke or spontaneous combustion reported.

The Houston Women’s Music Festival has always brought top notch artists to play. Many have gone on to great success. Vicci Martinez comes to mind. She performed at the 2009 festival

Vicci Martinez, though petite in build, stood tall as a finalist in front of 14 million viewers on NBC’s summer hit show “The Voice”. Since then, she’s been on a national tour playing big theaters, she’s signed a record deal with Universal Republic (and is recording as we speak) plus she signed on with one of the most prestigious talent booking agencies in the country; William Morris Entertainment.

We saw her enormous talent and we seized the opportunity to present her. The same goes for Sick of Sarah. We saw that they were going to be big and just about to explode and we were right. Now they have videos on MTV, they’ve been featured in national publications and they perform at mega festivals.

We have a keen eye for talent, we watch out for artists on the rise and when all the stars align we are able to bring them to the Houston Women’s Music Festival. The point is just because you’ve never heard of an artist that we present doesn’t mean a thing because any one that sets foot on our stage could be the next big thing.

It’s going to be a great journey for discovering new sounds for Houston music fans.
