The Athena Art Project that brings the festival to life is taking a break. But we’re still working to bring inspiring music to Houston.

An update will be coming soon.

Thanks for all your support.

The festival is on hiatus. We are reorganizing to bring more events to Houston.

However we do have a great Fall event set for festival fans.

Ellis will perform an intimate house concert on Sunday, September 30 at 6:30 pm in Southwest Houston.

It’s a house concert with Beth Wood – Sunday, March 19th @ 6:30 pm.

That’s right. It’s in a home.  Every seat in the house is a birds-eye view of one of the best contemporary American songwriters today.  You’ll laugh. You might even cry but one thing is for sure, Beth Wood’s music will make you feel good and it will make you feel alive!

We’re happy to announce the harmony driven duo from Florida, Halcyon is returning to Houston on Saturday, December 10th.  They’ll be performing an intimate house concert in Southwest Houston.

If you’ve never been to a house concert you’re in for a treat. It’s one of the best formats for presenting a performer. You get to see them up close and personal plus you get to meet with them and get to know them better.

$20 per person donation to the artists.  Beer, soda and bottled water will be available for a $1 donation.

Seating is very limited.  If you wish to attend you must RSVP  and pre-pay to reserve a space and to find out the location. Credit card payments will be accepted through the festival.  Service fee of $1.25 per ticket will apply. Call Sharman Petri, the festival producer at 832-978-8430 for reservations and details.

Hope to see you soon.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the 2011 festival. It was so much fun and I hope everyone enjoyed the talented and diverse performers we scheduled for your listening pleasure. We’re intersted in hearing who your favorites were.

We always like feedback so let us know what worked and if anything didn’t work, we like to hear that too so that we can continue to improve.

Special thanks to our sponsors, Bud Light, HEB Curve Magazine and Guitar Center for their support.

Also thanks to our volunteers whom we rely on to make the festival run smoothly.

If you missed on line advance ticket cutoff last night, don’t fret, but don’t delay. There are a limited amount of tickets left at the Shop Hair Salon located on Commonwealth @ Westheimer. You need to get there before 2:30 because the owner is closing early to come to the festival.

The festival is held at Jones Plaza 600 Louisiana @ Texas in the theatrical district of Downtown Houston.  Noon until 10:00 PM.  Come join the fun and community with old and new friends.

ARTISTS FOR 2011 FESTIVAL INCLUDE:

Once while touring with Dreamtrybe in the heat of summer, Ginger Doss and eight other band members had their van break down just outside of Houston. They had to travel the rest of the drive to Maryland in a diesel truck on loan from a good friend of the band. Most of the band had to ride in the covered bed of the truck. To keep anyone from bursting into flames, they ran a big-ass channel of air conditioning duct from the a/c vents in the cab, all the way to the sweltering bed of the truck where the rest of the hippies were wilting like flowers in the sun. How’s that for ingenuity! They made it to Maryland successfully. No incidents of heat stroke or spontaneous combustion reported.

ANNOUNCING A FEW CONFIRMED ARTISTS FOR 2011 FESTIVAL:

The Houston Women’s Music Festival has always brought top notch artists to play. Many have gone on to great success. Vicci Martinez comes to mind.  She performed at the 2009 festival

Vicci Martinez, though petite in build, stood tall as a finalist in front of 14 million viewers on NBC’s summer hit show “The Voice”.  Since then, she’s been on a national tour playing big theaters, she’s signed a record deal with Universal Republic (and is recording as we speak) plus she signed on with one of the most prestigious talent booking agencies in the country; William Morris Entertainment.

We saw her enormous talent and we seized the opportunity to present her. The same goes for Sick of Sarah.  We saw that they were going to be big and just about to explode and we were right. Now they have videos on MTV, they’ve been featured in national publications and they perform at mega festivals.

We have a keen eye for talent, we watch out for artists on the rise and when all the stars align we are able to bring them to the Houston Women’s Music Festival. The point is just because you’ve never heard of an artist that we present doesn’t mean a thing because any one that sets foot on our stage could be the next big thing.

It’s going to be a great journey for discovering new sounds for Houston music fans.
